World Security Take Down is possible

In our world today we have a great threat hovering over us that we all do not see it coming.
In this day and age technology is one of the main keys to the future and to our every day livings. As the world advances More and more of our daily use's are being turned in to some sort of automated computer controlled system, where it be a closed circuit system or being a live online system they still have the same high risk of being exposed to a massive attack resulting in world disaster.
A lot of what we depend on runs of computer control systems. things such as banking, super markets stocking, air ports, sea ports, interstate trucking, traffic controlling, public transporting, jail systems, hospitals, energy system's, just to name a few. from this a very advanced team of attackers could bring down a whole country or more quite simple.
So is there much we can do about such a threat?
in reality i guess there isn't due to the fact that for every bit of security made, there is always a person out there willing to spend time to by pass it some way or another. so its only a matter of time before we see simple computer user's doing very very extreme things to countries and more.
